Thanks for coming to check out my blog. Basically, this page is a brief history of how this whole “kept husband” thing got started.
A while back (say, 2 years and 9 months ago, but that will change and I am too lazy to keep updating this part) my wife and I were expecting our first child. I suspect that most of you reading this are probably based in the States, so you may not be familiar with the parental leave laws here in Canada. Basically, when you are expecting a baby, the parents are allowed to take up to one year off work after the baby is born. During this time, your employer has to keep your job open for you, you can split the one year almost any way you want between each parent, and the government pays you 55% of your salary while you are off.
Since my wife was working at a job she really didn’t like, we decided to each take 6 months of parental leave with the idea that when our time was up, she would quit work to stay home with our son and I would (unfortunately) go back to work. But then she got a great idea for starting her own home business. So she did quit her job, and started working on her own business instead.Things got busy enough for her and she was making enough money that we decided that I would quit my crappy job as well. So now I hang out at home (London, Ontario), help out my wife with her business from time to time, and play with my son. Since I haven’t had to go to work for 12 full months now, I thought I’d start a blog. I figured since my wife is too busy to talk to me during the day and there is only so much you can take away from a conversation with a two-year old, I would take it all out on you nice people.
Without using any ubiquitous Seinfeld cliches, this blog isn’t really about anything. It is really just a place for me to go off whenever I feel so inclined, and for you guys to laugh at me or whatever you feel like doing. You should be able to drop me a line if you feel so inclined (I’m still working out some of the fine touches of this site like, say, e-mail) at jamie AT kepthusband DOT com. This way you can pass on any suggestions or what have you and I will make sure to give them the attention they deserve (don’t you love that phrase?).Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy yourselves.
